I only recently discovered this and would like to encourage more members to join. its the third menu item up in the toolbar. Join and lets do some live chatting! Ill be online most of the time as i have a computer at work.

You can use a *real* IRC client, too.  I used to use HydraIRC many moons ago...

I think you have to have Java installed to get it to work.  i recall the first time I used it (and the first time on the last clean install of windows) I had to go get Java.

Yeah...it's a dying thing. It is slowly going away because it never got used. We may eventually have an alternative, but it won't be any time soon.

I do not think that it was really promoted a great deal that people actualy realised there was one.

Think the most I ever saw on there was 8 people and that was back when it was introduced.  Wasn't it done by resfilter?

resfilter helped us out as far as learning how to 'do irc', but it was started by us. Actually, he may have done the first one, before we switched to freenode now that I think about it.

Back in the day we had a handful of regulars, but interest eventually died out. In the last few days, there have been quite a few poeple in  and out of the chat room, but I'm never there when they come and go. I don't have time anyway, homework consumes almost every spare instant.

Nevrosis has been in chat for like, three days now. Someone go talk to him!

We promoted it quite a bit at first. And like Bahgheera said people just lost interest. Do forum members NOT pay attention to the link right at the top of every single page? It is even viewable to the general public; you don't even have to be signed in to the forum to see it or use it. How can people not see or know about something when it is staring them right in the face?

And before anybody gets upset about what I have said (this is not a response to anyone in this thread directly), I honestly just don't understand. It's difficult trying to gain interest in something when most people either don't want to listen, don't care, or simply don't take the time to investigate, yet here we are now discussing the issue. I don't get it.

That's because people's minds today have sensory-overload. This phenomenal has been compensated by people's attention being narrower than ever before. Call it a hypothalamus spam filter, or some new evolution in our lobes that prevents stupid people like me from taking advantage of new forum features while surfing the WWW. We've taken the idocracy from formal e-mails, to loose e-mails, creative spelling in cellphone text-pestering, all the way down to this infernal rabble of public noise called "Twitter". I'm not sure I will even use Twitter, as I don't even use my Facebook account anymore because of how time-consuming it became.

Just a tempest in a tea-cup. You're lecture gave me a sad vision of tomorrow.

In other news... Nevrosis is STILL logged onto FLip-chat. Someone should seriously wake the poor guy up from his eternal Narcolepsy.
