Topic: Project not loading :( please help!

Hi all,

so I'd been working on a project for a bit and was at the stage of having it almost finished, now when I try to open it, as it is loading everything it freezes. It loads pretty much all the vst's etc, but then near the end of the loading process, as it is opening fruity multiband compressor some kind of pop-up message comes up (which I cannot read), and Fl studio engine launcher 'fails'. It always freezes on this screen and I have to close FL studio. (I am using versin
I have tried pressing esc before the multiband compressor gets opened, I have tried cutting out the multiband compressor file from its location, all to no avail. Also, I can use fruity multiband compressor with no problems in other projects.
It's just really really annoying to have spent time on a project, had it almost finished, and now I can't even open the thing to finish it, let alone export what I have.
would getting FL studio 9 help at all?

I don't know if any other people have had similar problems, but any help would be greatly appreciated, I really really do not want to have to do EVERYTHING from scratch again.

And who knows, this problem might arise again? I can't motivate myself to make projects if there is a risk of something like this happenning again.

Post a zip file here and we can try and open it, maybe we can delete the MBComp and then resave it, or fix it in some other way.

It loads for me, but I have to cancel loading of most channels since I don't have the files or some plugins.

I did get a message that there is invalid data in the playlist related to the file: VEC3 LOOP 140BPM 018, but FL said the error was repaired.  Try hitting the esc button when this file tries to load to cancel loading of the file.

It opens for myself also, although I had to skip past all the Vengeance sample pack trance samples and the ToxicIII vst did not load in due to yours having a different name of ToxicIIIorion.

I would suggest upgrading your version of FL.

Yeah it opens for me too... but I didn't have any of the samples or plugins you used. Yes, try updating to FL 9. It might just be able to open it.

It's highly unlikely that any FL native plugin would cause a crash or freeze. It's either the corrupt playlist data, as brstma suggested, or one of your other 3rd party plugins.

If you can't open it by pressing escape when the VEC3 LOOP 140BPM 018 tries to load, you should run the diagnostic tool on the flp.

Start > Programs > Image-Line > FL Studio 9 > Advanced > Diagnostic

You can either download or run the diagnostic tool from there. Follow the prompts. It will attempt to save your project without the plugins. If it works, you can open it and add the plugins back again (maybe, one by one and "Save as" each time). It may be a bit of extra work, but at least you will have all your playlist, piano roll, step seq and mixer settings intact.

Edit: Alternately, you could move all the 3rd party plugins you used out of your VST folder and see if it opens. Then you could add them back one at a time and see if you can find the offending one.

just a note to the last poster, I don't have FL studio nine. Should i uipgrade just for this reason??? I reallyt need this working guys, thanks for your help so far.... **** it's annoying...      by the way, hitting the escape button doesn't really help me...

Well, there are plenty more reasons to upgrade to FL 9 (like it's awesome) but there's certainly no guarantee that it will open your project. Although it opened for us and we are using FL 9. Of course that's most likely because we don't have all the samples/plugins. But you don't need FL 9 to use the diagnostic tool. You can download it here http://www.image-line.com/diagnostic/

As I said, you could also try moving your 3rd party plugins out of your VST folder (so FL can't find them) and see if the project will load that way.

I've tried using the fruity diagnostic tool, but it doesn't seem to be working.Whenever I try removing any plugins, even just one, the output file is a 0kb file which doesn't open.
when I try removing vst plugins, it freezes when it cannot locate it. even if I just have a new file open with nothing, and try and add a vst plugin that I have removed, it will freeze when FL studio cannot locate it.
But if everything is there, it always seems to freeze when it is opening fruity multiband compressor.

Could someone please open the zip file of my project that I posted earlier, remove the multiband compressor from all mixer channels (I think its on 3 or 4 channels), and then post it back up here?? Maybe that could work?

Ok, but you probably won't be able to open it unless you have FL 9 - because that's what I used to save it. An older version might let you open it, so it's worth a try. But if you own a legit copy of FL, you should just download FL 9.

I just made it an flp. There's no reason to save a zip unless you are including samples with it. I don't have any of the samples. or VSts you used, so they are all blank sampler channels and show up red. But at least the piano rolls, SS and mixer settings are intact.  Although you might wanna turn down those mixer tracks and the Sytrus channel - they are maxing out the peak meters.  Sytrus was also overloading the multiband comp something shocking.

I removed all instances of the multiband compressor and resaved it.

I would suggest upgrading your version of FL.

Why would that solve his problem though? I'm not sure why people always suggest that, there is nothing wrong with FL8.

i think the only reason that upgrading to solve the issue would be on a share basis. i.e the newer plugs that 9 carries

thanks a lot whiskey priest, but yeah as you said, I can't open your file because I have FL8.
After adding a multiband compressor to another project, that has now become unopenable as well!! this is ridiculous, I didn't think it would be a native plugin causing the problems.. I will upgrade to nine today or tomorrow so I will try with that and let you all know how that goes....
are there any other options?

No worries. Yeah, I didn't think it would open in FL 8, but it was worth a try. It does sound strange that adding a multiband comp would corrupt a project like that.

You know, you can still leave FL 8 on your PC and do a separate install of FL 9 if you want... but if 8 is causing problems, you might want to reinstall it as well, or just go with FL 9.
